Personal Statement
The long-term goal of my research is to investigate the mechanisms underlying the impact of environmental factors on immunity and autoimmunity. My current research focus is transcriptional and metabolic regulation of mucosal barrier function. I have expertise in studying transcriptional regulation of lymphocyte differentiation. My more recent work extends this to the study of the mechanisms of regulation of mucosal immunity and inflammation (e.g., host-microbe interactions). Specifically, I have been studying how the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (Ahr) influences the biology of T lymphocytes and newly identified innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) that play important roles in mucosal tissues. Most recently, my laboratory has been focusing on the role of Tfam mediated mitochondrialrespiration in lymphocyte development and function. In summary, I have the necessary expertise and leadership, as evidenced by following research support and representative papers, to supervise the proposed research in this grant application
