Tsinghua University and RIKEN to Collaborate on Immunology Research

Lately, the Institute for Immunology of Tsinghua University (IITU) and RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (IMS) have signed memorandum of understanding for a comprehensive collaboration on innovative research.

 

Established in 2014 and headed by Director Chen Dong, the Institute for Immunology of Tsinghua University (IITU) convenes 12 principle investigators in various areas of immunological research, ranging from innate immunity to adaptive immunity, and autoimmune diseases to cancer immunotherapy. The institute has been rising to a prominent position in the past few years, with significant discoveries on immune cell development, function and dysregulation.

 

RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (IMS) was established in 2013 and headed by Tadashi Yamamoto, with the goal of creating innovative medical science and contributing to the future of human health. IMS has several integrated groups including the Cores for Homeostatic Regulation, Precision Measuring and Modeling, Genomic Medicine, and one Program for Medical Innovations and another program for Young Chief Investigators. The center has combined the strengths from multiple disciplines and aim to spearhead the development of personalized preventive medicine and therapeutics.  

 

                 

 

This collaboration will unite efforts from both sides to promote academic excellence and translational research in Tsinghua University and RIKEN, two of the leading institutions in science and technology in Asia. The developed initiatives feature annual joint workshop, co-appointed professorship and coordinated student summer course program. The close collaboration in a wide range of activities from individual to institutional level will greatly facilitate scientific communication and synergy among faculty, students and staff, and foster an academic community benefiting the new generation of young scientists.
